Rev. T. Colledge Booth – the Pastor of Loftus Congregational Church – he came to his first pastorate at Loftus in June, 1897, when the church was in the building on North Road. He is also notable from his numerous postcard and other images of Loftus and the surrounding area; a man of many talents!

Last time I was in Loftus (?8 years ago) I bumped into a lady at the tea rooms who was June Winspear. She is my brother’s contemporary and asked me to say hello to him. Sorry June I forgot but he has joined the digital age and I can get a message to Carol his wife if you like? Carol and my sister Sally are on Facebook – all in Australia still.”

These ladies are in the Congregational Church Loftus, we don’t know all of the ladies names but some of them are (left to right): ??, ??, Mrs Benson, ??, Mrs Middleton (of Arbroath House), ??, Mrs Wood (her husband George Wood could often be seen in and around Loftus sitting at his easel painting beautiful water colours), ??, ??, Mrs Jackson. From ”Remember When” in the Evening Gazette, the caption tells us all, were you one of those Scouts? The original newspaper article dates from March 1960. Barbara McBurney has identified : “The three Cub Scouts in the back row are Robin Middleton, Michael Lindsey and Peter Collinson”.

About 1950 as Joyce’s mother Mrs Hoare( President) cuts the cake, some of the ladies present at this British Legion event can be named. Back row:- ??, Mrs Money, Miss Evans, Mrs Tebble.

Again Joyce tells us this was about 1935 and the horse is one that belonged to the Co-op, usually stabled at the back of Loftus Co-op.

The entrance to Mars Farm in 1953, when this photo was taken of Joyce who was then Joyce Hore; later to become Mrs Appleton. Do you remember Mr Hore in the shoe department at Loftus Co-op? This is his daughter. Janet Lingard (nee Thompson) told the Archive: “I can remember going to the farm with a billy can to buy milk, this would be in the late forties or early fifties.”
