Golf Club Opened.

Members present at the official opening in 1937 of the new golf course at Loftus. The group includes, secretary Mr H. Davey and the ladies secretary Miss F. Knaggs. Do you know any of the other people on the photo and exactly where Loftus golf course was and when did it close? Once again more questions than answers. J. Wilson assists with: “It was on the cliff top behind Hummersea according to my father.”

Images are from our cuttings file (in the main from the Evening Gazette). thanks to J. Wilson for the update.

Anybody recognise their fathers or mothers in this team?

Geoff tells us: ”Lady third from right back row as you look at the photograph is Marion Barwick (maybe still Ditchburn, not sure of date) the lady on her left is Vera Bailey”. Shelagh Tyler, daughter of Marion confirms that Ditchburn was her name at the time of the photograph being taken but also supplies the following information: ”I have a copy (of photograph) and Mam has written some of the names on the back though they are not written in any order. Mr & Mrs Edith?  North, ? ? Linford, Mrs Linford, Mrs Pickering, Will Thomas, Maggie Cause, Alice Wills, Bill Atkinson, Harry Skeldon, Olive Massey, Grace Atkinson, Vera Bailey.”

With thanks to Geoff and Shelagh Tyler for names to date.

Brotton Cycling Club 1910

Just about every town and village had their own cycling club in the early 1900s; this is Brotton’s. An all male bastion, but can anybody assist with names or even a location?

Tennis Courts, Carlin How

Carlin How was believed to have some of the best tennis courts locally; I can’t tell who any of the players are, can you?  A clue may be that this photograph was taken in the Jubilee year of 1961 for Carlin How Working Men’s Club.
