Whitby Abbey

Another image from – “Photographic View Album of Whitby” – photographed and printed by Valentine & Sons Ltd., Dundee. It is interesting to note that even in the late Victorian period artists took delight in capturing images of the Abbey, or perhaps she was more interested in the scaffolding on the side walls.

East Cliff, Whitby

A lovely view of a paddle-steamer in Whitby harbour, the image is from – “Photographic View Album of Whitby” – photographed and printed by Valentine & Sons Ltd., Dundee. There are other images (usually from hand-tinted postcards) of paddle-steamers in the harbour; at one time Whitby was a regular calling point for short cruises by paddle-steamers on the north-east coast.

St. Mary’s Church, Whitby

A further image from – “Photographic View Album of Whitby” – photographed and printed by Valentine & Sons Ltd., Dundee; the scene is very little changed today. Although the gravestones in many cases are now almost indecipherable!

The Piers, Whitby

Although this has a look of a Frank Meadows Sutcliffe image; it is taken from – ”Photographic View Album of Whitby” – photographed and printed by Valentine & Sons Ltd., Dundee. Dating from pre-1911, as the now familiar pier extensions were added in 1912.
