Les Holliday appears to be demonstrating his crab pot repairing skills to Darren Tyler, Richard Noble and Stephen Tooth. They appear to be outside the fisherman’s hut at the bottom of ‘Bothroyds’ Bank.

Left to right we have Dave Coultas, Richard Noble, Simon Coultas (Dave’s son) and Les Holliday. Preparing to go to sea, although Dave Coultas’s son seems very well dressed to be going off in a boat.

Les Holliday, John Essay and Richard Noble continue to wait, did they get to sea that day?

Trevor McConnell, Richard Noble and Stephan Tokarski taking the boat to the water, it seems to be a low tide.

Perhaps a second discussion is required as to the strength of the sea? Richard Noble (driving) is in front of Barry James, Les Holliday and John Essay. The other boats occupants are unknown, can anybody assist?

Looking at the waves behind, we are unsure as to whether this was before or after, but we have Les Holliday viewing the waves, John Essay is sitting in the boat ‘Cock-A-Leekie’, so called as it was prone to leaking! Richard Noble is seated on the tractor.

Richard Noble is driving the tractor and we have Keith Money and Stephan Tokarski working the boat. Believed to be launching owing to the absence of seagulls, often indicating a successful voyage; unless you know better? Shaun Clarkson has advised us that the boat was built by Billy Clarkson. Peter Appleton tells us: “The boat was named after Melinda Muriel Thomas, who would have been Stephen’s grandmother I think. She married one of my great-uncles, Robert Evans, at Brotton in 1927.”

Together in the boat we have: Richard Noble and Trevor McConnell.

Richard Noble seated is definitely out shone by the hairstyle and clothing of Malcom Whitney. Familiar in the 1980s, but sadly rarely seen today.
