All Dressed Up

Looks as though these ladies have been to church or maybe chapel, do you know the name of the lady in White? We know the other two are Mrs Mays and Mrs Robinson. Yes this is the Newton Memorial Chapel portico in the background.

Can You Name These People?

The two at the back are Mrs Gibbon and Mrs Mays, but we don’t know the names of the others in the photograph, do you?

More Locals

Lilian Wildmore and Mrs Hume are standing at the back, Jean Cuthbert and Elizabeth Wildmore in front of them. Alec Cuthbert (Senior) seated next to his son Alec Cuthbert. Kath Collins and Fred Ward make up the seated row with Dorothy Collins and Eileen Sayers at the front.

Malcolm Mays

That is the name of the gentleman in this photograph; in the back street? Can anybody add more; where and possibly when?

Catching The Rays

Many of us will have photographs like this; making the most of the sunshine in the back street, a well known pastime in days gone by. The people in the photograph are: Mrs Collins, Kathleen Collins, Mrs Hume, Eileen Sayers, Dorothy Collins, Pat Collins Mrs Freda Brown and Elizabeth Wildmore.

A Local Lad

Alec Cuthbert is the name of this young man; a well known Loftus family. Margaret Atkinson advises: “Alec is on my family tree, his father was married to my Gran’s sister; small world.

Chums

This is one of the quartet of fishing entitled linked postcards; but the only one bearing any identification – Fisher Life Studies. Valentines Series – it is possibly Staithes based; identification is aided by the backgrounds. Again no indication of date.

Staithes Folk

This reworked mounted image of Staithes folk shows several ladies in their Staithes bonnets, but no idea of date. Perhaps they are recognisable to a viewer of the site?

Votes for Women!

The title says it all! We know Adela Pankhurst addressed a rally in Loftus Market Place (outside the National Provincial Bank – lately Natwest) in 1909. However we believe this image is of a supporting demonstration outside the chapel in Skinningrove, note the minister is supporting this display.

Skinningrove After the Floods

This view believed to be taken after the floods of 1903, shows the remains of the original bridge in Skinningrove linking the village via ”Bothroyd’s Bank” to Hummersea, Loftus and Boulby. It was later to be replaced by the bridge of today.
