It would be more precise to describe the image as Easington Schools; being a classic Poor Law School. Boys one side and girls the other; each with a separate entrance. Ray Brown told us: “This has come from Joe Fenby, he lived in the now converted School for many years and had then just celebrated his 90th birthday; Ray was told that the Girl in the picture was Joe’s mother but he could not say for certain.”
Staff and pupils of Rosecroft School worked together to present the pantomime ’Dick Whittington’ in December, 1978. Many of the cast assisted with ‘self’ identification, whilst Mike Garbutt said: “It was a great show!!” and Debbie Shaw added: “Such a long time ago!!”

Mr. Ingleby was one of the sailors on the ship that sailed overseas with Dick’s cat on board. He is pictured here in the Sultan’s court, now identified as Keith Wheatman (the Sultan). Keith Wheatman confirms with: “Indeed that is me looking quite silly! The beginning and end of my acting career. Thanks for giving my daughter a good laugh.”
