Castleton Post Office

A tinted postcard, of the Post Office in the village of Castleton in the Esk valley, early in the 1900’s.

Skinningrove Station

Skinningrove Station, on Carlin How Bank; it was closer to Carlin How, seperated by the famous zig zag rail descent into Skinningrove village. A one platform station, it suffered badly from mining subsidence and had to be demolished.

Stokesley Church

The Church of St Peter and St Paul, Stokesley; as it appeared in about 1900. The tower and chancel are of perpendicular era and the nave was rebuilt in 1771, note the two boys climbing the railings round the churchyard.

Nine Chimneys

Or Angel Cottage, lot 62 in the catalogue. Described in the sale catalogue as having one double and one single bedroom, kitchen with range and cupboard, back kitchen with sink and cupboard, pantry, coal shed etc. Water from spring in woodland at rear. Built of stone with slate roof, the south wall is of great thickness and has a castellated parapet giving the appearance of 8 chimney’s. Rent was £13 per annum. The image was taken from Grinkle Park Estate sale in 1946.

Boathouse Ruswarp

Visitors prepare to take to the water at the boathouse on the River Esk at Ruswarp; a scene which even today is replicated on many sunny days.

Marsh Farm

Lot 68 in the catalogue of lots of Grinkle Park Estate, was Marsh Farm, Scaling village; 150 acres land, farmhouse with 5 bedrooms, sitting room, front kitchen, back kitchen with sink, dairy, drinking water from Scaling well at the road side on south of garden. Rent £124 per annum, date of sale 1946.

Railway Station

Believed to be Staithes Station, although Kettleness station was built to an identical design, Can anyone verify this information.
