Was it you looking very hard at what we think is a mock up of a mill control unless you know different, the year would be 1974. Barbara McBurney tells us: ”This is Milton Creswick, Electricsl Training Instructor in the Training Centre, Skinningrove Works, no idea who the ladies are!”

A school group visit to Skinningrove works; were you one of the youngsters here? If you were; can you tell us the year and what the occasion was, please! Maria Wilcock suggests: “Is the young lad behind the boy in the black cardiagn Alan Richardson (aka Boo Boo) from Skelton? If it is he looks to be about 6-7 years old and could be from approx 1967?”

A Cricket Team Puzzle

Help was needed with this photograph of a Cricket team; believed to be at Carlin How Ground.

Colin Hart tells us: ”The photograph was taken at Carlin How football ground, where the Skinningrove works athletic club played their inter department cricket competition. The team looks like the Staff team. Guess around 1970.” Bob Doe tells us: ”It was the inter department trophy but I remember we also went to Workington that year to play their champions, but when we got there it was cancelled due to rain”.

Skinningrove Works Chief Engineer Walter Bradley is on the right, Barbara McBurney assists with: “To Walter Bradley’s right is his daughter Jeanette”, with group which includes Mrs Bradley. At the Training Centre before starting their tour of the works in 1974.

It’s not a Meccano Set.

Skinningrove Works Open Day 1974, Instructor Ray Milner explains to the fascinated group about the fully working model, used to train overhead crane drivers and slingers. Help again needed to put names to faces.  Barbara McBurney tells us: ”The lady at the front centre is Jean Ainsley, she the owned Ainsley’s shop in Carlin How, I believe the tallest boy to the right of her was Ian Ainsley her son who was an apprentice fitter at time.”

Little Mill

Skinningrove Works in 1974, at the 18 Inch Mill, (foreman) Jim Rowe, shows a party, around the mill. Shirley Kay, and Marlene Webster, are in the group. Alan Rowe tells us: ”Joan Rowe – white top – dark shoulder straps. Alan Rowe – white lined anorak hood.”
