She became a total wreck and sank.” Thanks to Fred Brunskill for the update. Anybody recognise their fathers or mothers in this team? Geoff tells us: ”Lady third from right back row as you look at the photograph is Marion Barwick (maybe still Ditchburn, not sure of date) the lady on her left is Vera Bailey”. Shelagh Tyler, daughter of Marion confirms that Ditchburn was her name at the time of the photograph being taken but also supplies the following information: ”I have a copy (of photograph) and Mam has written some of the names on the back though they are not written in any order. Mr & Mrs Edith? North, ? ? Linford, Mrs Linford, Mrs Pickering, Will Thomas, Maggie Cause, Alice Wills, Bill Atkinson, Harry Skeldon, Olive Massey, Grace Atkinson, Vera Bailey.” With thanks to Geoff and Shelagh Tyler for names to date. It is believed that this photograph of the children attending Easington School was taken about 1902. Georgina Thurlow is the girl in the sailor dress, third from the right, second row from the back. The original image is mounted behind glass which is cracked. I have not attempted to touch up the image; feeling happy to show it how it is, over a hundred years old. Would any of your grandparents, or great-grandparents have attended the school at the time? Image courtesy of Mrs. J. Wilson. This photograph was taken in a classroom in Harry Dack Infant School in the mid fifties. The school was opened in 1954, so everything would still be fresh and new for these children. David Morris is the boy in the dark jacket, sitting at the front desk. We asked ”Who are the other children and the teacher?” Kathleen Oyediran tells us: ”I am the sister of David Morris in this picture. The name of the teacher was Mrs Gornall. She used to teach all the girls Sewing.” However we were advised by Barbara McBurney: ”Mrs Gornall taught sewing at Loftus County Modern School and later Rosecroft, I attended Harry Dack Infant School from Christmas 1955, Mrs Gornall was not teaching there then.” Kathleen further advised us: ”My brother David, in this picture, was born in 1947. Therefore he would be 5 in 1952 and 7 in 1954, so he would have been in Infant school from 1952 to 1954, moving into Harry Dack after it opened in 1954. This picture must have been taken during this period. I agree Mrs Gornall taught Sewing at Loftus County Modern School during my time at the school.” Ann Jackson has also told us: ”I remember both Mr and Mrs Gornall. They both taught at Loftus School but were based at Carlin How as was Mrs Wheatman who taught cookery for the first 2 years I was there then they all transferred to the new school. Mrs Gornall as Barbara says taught sewing and Mr Gornall taught woodwork.” Eric Johnson can also remember Mr Gornall teaching woodwork at Carlin How. Image courtesy of David Morris and thanks to Kathleen Margaret Oyediran (nee Morris), Eric Johnson, Barbara McBurney and Ann Jackson for the updates. This photograph of Canon F. Read and the members of the church choir was taken at the Rectory. Mrs. Taylor, the organist, is standing at the left. Canon Frank Read is sitting in the middle. Mr. Taylor, the lay reader, is sitting next to him, 5th from left. Mr J. C. Morris is standing, 4th from left, in the back row of the choir. Initially very few names were available, but R. Clarkson tells us: ”Back row (2nd in from banner) is Frederick Askew (my grandfather)”. Carol Barwick also tells us: ”back row (4th gentleman on the right) is my grandfather Wilf Robinson.” Then Michael Grant advised: “I have just discovered your website and it occurred to me that you might be interested in the attached photograph from 1925 which includes my father (Ernest Grant), my grandfather (Benjamin Grant) and three uncles. Back row: Mrs Taylor (organist), Mollie Foster, Margery Drake, Will Cook, John Cuthbert, John Trinder, Joe Morris, Syd Dawson, Will Sanderson, Wilf Robinson, James Garbutt, Fred Askew, Benjamin Grant holding banner, Eva Cook, Mary Severs, Miss Penfold. Also Lisa for her query. This photograph of the children at Easington School with the headmaster and teacher was taken in 1908. There’s quite a range of ages in the children, would this be the whole school? The only name we have is J. C. Morris, kneeling on the left of the front row.
