Not approved of by many people today but this was in 1951 the Festival of Britain year and Miss Loftus was the girl on the right Doreen Magor, next to Doreen is Eileen Money with Betty Shaw next to her and Marina Ward standing at the back. The photograph has been taken on the staircase of Loftus Town Hall, the Urban District Council at that time being keen to support such activities and events.

School choir I remember it well, Mrs Garbutt and Miss Trevillion, Whitby Spa singing ’The Cuckoo Is A Pretty Bird’ if I remember rightly, the members of the choir were:-

A bit further upstream, at the footbridge, the water flooded the field and filled the valley. The toll bridge keeper’s cottage for the old Ha’penny Bridge can be seen at the top of the bank on the left.

No names to this photograph at first, looks as though there may have been a performance of some play or possibly a performance for the Festival Of Britain 1951.
. But what was the performance and who were the performers? Some of them I know, but not many, I am relying on you to fill in the missing names.

We don’t know where or when this photograph was taken and the lady with these children has been cut off. Jen Trembath tells us: ”I can tell you who the little boy is second from the right on the front row – my Dad, Herbert Trembath. He lived in Skinningrove, so I’m guessing this could be a Skinningrove school photograph. He was born in 1916 – so I imagine that puts the date of the photograph somewhere in the mid 1920s.
