Road Opening 1925

The official opening of the Whitby to Sandsend road on 7th November 1925, this image is from an original taken by Tom Watson of Lythe. He had been commissioned to record the week by week progress of this activity.

A Slower Way To Travel

This view of the double bridge at Claphow, on the road connecting New Skelton to Lingdale; shows a time much quieter for traffic. Pity the poor modern-day horse driver if he attempted to drive in the middle of the road!

Jane Hall enquires: “My mother was engaged to Kenneth and we were wondering if his sister Margery was still living. My Mother is 94 and it would be wonderful if we could find out more. Kenneth was killed in the war. Fingers crossed you could help.” Can anybody assist?
