A further view (again a modern reproduction of a 1950s postcard) of snow at Osmotherly. The newspaper delivery must get through; judging by the banked up roadsides there had been snow previously. I can remember similar winter scenes and life seemed to just go on. Memories of taking newspapers out: despite the delivery vans having difficulty in getting from Darlington, we were expected to be ready to deliver. And there was trouble if you were late collecting your delivery bag! Ann Jackson advises : “Queen Catherine public house in the background.”

Hello Ann, I am also one of the Jackson clans but with , hopefully, some luck in contacting you. I lived with my grandparents in Port Mulgrave between 1946 and 1950. John Thomas and Eliza Ann Jackson. Their son (my father) George Alan Jackson was in the armed forces during WW2 and stationed in Mauritius where he met my mother and they got married in 1942. I travelled to the UK last year in an endeavour to establish if my father s alive or not. I would like to exchange some info with you should you in any way can relate to the info I have provided above. Many thanks
Hi Norman I have sent you a message re my family tree Ann
Incidentally, my grandparents passed away in the early 1950s and they rest in the Port Mulgrave cemetery. When I was there in May of last year I was shown their resting place which sadly did not have a memorial stone on it. It is taking time but I made a vow to do something about this. As you perhaps are aware I live in Perth, Western Australia but this is not going to stop me from taking care of having some information placed on their resting place. I am planning to get back to Hinderwell and Port Mulgrave in the not too distant future. They looked after me and my late brother during last years in the 1940’s before my mother, my brother and I went to live in Mauritius. Cheers for now. Regards to all the Jacksons up your way.
Hi Norman I have been in touch with my cousin and her husband Joe. Joe remembers your grandparents and your Dad but doesn’t know what happened to them ,he thinks they moved away. There are some Jacksons at Borrowby so they are going to ask a friend if she knows them. Jean my cousin used to deliver the post to Port Mulgrave and said there are no Jackson there now. Sorry we can’t help but if we hear anything will be in touch Ann
