Brook House Again

This view of the rear of Brook House gives a real impression of how it perched on the side of the road, but also of how close to the Gas Works it really was! When first built it would be a substantial dwelling and one of the largest houses in the village.

I loved living there. Was damp in certain rooms but my mum and dad pasted polystyrene on the walls before wall papering them. The top sash window at the back was my bedroom and I begged for ballet dancer wallpaper which was beautiful.I had a great view of the beck which was crystal clear in those days with plenty of fish. My mum used to sing the Trout song to me over and over. Oh for the old days. The song began- I stood beside a brooklet that sparkled on its way, and saw beneath the wavelets a tiny trout at play. The bathroom was upstairs and the toilet was downstairs just in the hallway
