Liverton Mine c.1964

The inevitable onset of “urban decay” sets in after the closure of the mine at Liverton Mines and we can see the beginning of its destruction. The view was taken from the vantage point of the shale heaps.

On the left is what we called the red block ( made of red brick ) this was the support for the calcining kilns as seen in the other photographs. The only thing left when we were kids of the buildings was the shaft and the half dome structure which we used to shelter in when it rained.
